The Herndon orchestras are comprised of string orchestra students in Fairfax County Public School's Herndon pyramid:

• Herndon High School
• Herndon Middle School
• Aldrin Elementary School
• Armstrong Elementary School
• Clearview Elementary School
• Dranesville Elementary School
• Herndon Elementary School
• Hutchison Elementary School

There are concert (intermediate) and symphonic (advanced) orchestras at Herndon Middle and High Schools.  There is also a cadet (beginning) orchestra at Herndon Middle.  There are string orchestras composed of beginning, intermediate, and advanced students at the elementary schools. 

The Herndon orchestras present concerts, participate in judged events, take field trips, and enjoy numerous other activities as part of Fairfax County Public Schools' orchestra program
