Herndon High Orchestra

Welcome to HOBO!

2007-2008

Letter from Mr. D.

The Herndon Orchestra Boosters were organized in the spring of 2004, and our mission is to enhance the musical experience of the students who participate in orchestra program, as well as assist the Director.

Who are HOBO members?
All parents/guardians of orchestra students are members of HOBO, and we are looking forward to your active participation in the orchestra events.  It is very important that each family become involved and lend a hand in making this year a great educational and fun experience for our students.  Our fundraising and social events will be much more fun and easy if everyone pitches in their time and talents.

What is HOBO all about?
Our mission is to support our students and orchestra director so that they will have a successful and enjoyable year.  We organize social and fundraising activities, maintain communications, provide chaperones for trips, assist the orchestra director, maintain student accounts, and generally help in any way we can.  We want to help our children and their orchestra classmates succeed in their efforts to become better musicians.  It shows our students that we care about them.  And we want all orchestra parents to be informed about what is happening in the musical life of our children. We, HOBO, are the orchestral community of parents, students and teachers at Herndon High.

Why do we have to raise funds?
Our students have expenses to participate in the orchestra.  Each student must have a uniform; there are fees per student for participation in the local Festival competition; there are fees for participation in and transportation to the Spring Competition; new sheet music must be purchased each year; equipment such as chairs, stands, instruments, replacement and repair of damaged instruments, recording and playback electronics are needed; and so forth.  We maintain an extensive and very up-to-the-minute website, not only for HHS, but also for Herndon Middle School and the feeder elementary schools. Very simply, we parents and students must provide our time and energy to raise the additional funds necessary to have our students participate in this wonderful program.
Our fundraisers are designed to support two main purposes:  The Activity Fee and other selected fundraisers cover departmental expenses; the edible product fundraisers count 100% toward the students’ accounts for the spring Festival trip.

What are HOBO’s activities?
Here are some of this year’s planned activities:

  • Hosting the District XII Orchestra Festival

  • Music Department Spring Trip

  • Annual  Banquet

  • Social and educational events

  • Uniforms fitting and purchase

  • Orchestra tee shirts

  • Fundraising

  • Refreshments & flowers at concerts

  • Assist the Director with administration and logistics

  • Keep parents informed about orchestra activities

  • Maintain liaison with school administration and PTSA

  • Provide outreach to Herndon Middle and the elementary schools in the Herndon Pyramid

How can we find out more?
Please check out our fabulous website: http://www.herndonorch.org/hhshome.htm

What can you do?
All of us lead very busy lives, but HOBO needs EVERY family to help with at least one of the planned activities.  Please:

  • Come to HOBO meetings

  • Be sure your student does all she/he can to raise money for themselves and the department

  • Share your time, energy and talents with the rest of us!
