The Herndon High Orchestra is comprised of string orchestra students at Herndon High School. Advanced string orchestra and band students perform together as a full symphony.

There is a concert string orchestra for intermediate students and a full symphony orchestra for the more advanced. Students attend orchestra class during the school day, perform at three evening concerts, and participate in two judged events (one locally, one out-of-town). There are also opportunities for members to perform individually and in ensembles. Students are expected to practice daily.

New students audition for placement in an orchestra. Seating is determined by the director. Intermediate students may audition for movement to the symphonic orchestra.

During the 2008-2009 school year, 68 students are enrolled in orchestra.
