June 2007.  Ms. Gawinksi recognizes exemplary orchestra students. 
  • Alex Werntz and Chris Doheny receive the National School Orchestra Award.

  • Laura Strickland receives the Director's Award.

  • Nazuk Kochhar and Max So are commended for achievement in Symphonic Orchestra with Heather Clark and Suraj Kulkarni receiving Honorable Mention.

  • Harrison Jones and Elise Brannon are commended for achievement in Concert Orchestra with Evan Wood and Adrienne Kelly receiving Honorable Mention.

  • Brian Scarbrough, Ellie Cattle, Elizabeth Newcomer, Meg Dumlao, Meredith Farnham, and Ellen Falci are commended for excellence in Symphonic Orchestra with Eshan Dandekar, Anthony Szymczyk, Samantha White, Meredith Richardson, Kathryn Ogborn, and Kirsten Chen receiving Honorable Mention.

  • Laura Ortel and Dwight McLeroy are commended for excellence in Concert Orchestra with Harrison Tang receiving Honorable Mention.

  • Meredith Richardson, Ellie Cattle, and Shruti Nelamangala received their orchestra letters.  Five students received pins for their letters, six received bars, and one received a charm.

Also recognized were:

  • Concertmasters in both orchestras.

  • Section Leaders in both orchestras.

  • Members of the Hornet Chamber Ensemble.

  • Three orchestra members who performed in the District XI Solo and Ensemble Festival.

  • Two orchestra members who performed in the District XII Senior Orchestra

  • Orchestra members who are National Honor Society and HHS Honor Roll scholars.

Solo & Ensemble Festival
 
April 2007.  Herndon High Orchestra performs at the Southeast Invitational Music Festival in Atlanta.
  • Symphonic orchestra receives a Superior (1) and first place in the high school orchestra division.
  • Concert orchestra receives an Excellent (2) and first place in the open division.

Both orchestras played the same pieces that they performed at the District XII Festival.

The high combined scores of the orchestra and guitar ensembles earned the Instrumental Grand Sweepstakes Award.

Three members of symphonic orchestra were recognized as outstanding musicians:

  • Alex Werntz (concertmistress)
  • Ellen Falci (principal violist)
  • Elizabeth Newcomer (principal cellist)
   

March 2007.  Herndon High Orchestra performs in the District XII Festival:

  • Symphonic orchestra receives a Superior (1) playing grade VI pieces:

  1. As Summer Was Just Beginning (Daehn)

  2. Holberg Suite (Grieg)

  3. Suite for Strings (Rutter)

June 2006.  Ms. Gawinksi recognizes exemplary orchestra students:
  • Daniel Claff receives the National School Orchestra Award.

  • Chris Doheny and Alex Werntz receive the Director's Award.

  • Heather Clark, Eshan Dandekar, and Meagan Keeling receive the Personal Achievement Award in Symphonic Orchestra with Lalita Jaroenchonwanit and Anatole Doak receiving Honorable Mention.

  • Seena Hashemi and Shruti Nelamangala receive the Personal Achievement Award in Concert Orchestra with Harrison Tang, Ryan Healy, and Jessica Nguyen receiving Honorable Mention.

  • Laura Strickland, Ellen Falci, and Kirsten Chen are commended for Excellence in Symphonic Orchestra with Meredith Farnham and Elizabeth Newcomer receiving Honorable Mention.

  • Dwight McLeroy, Marc Kaplan, and Kathryn Ogborn are commended for Excellence in Concert Orchestra with Caitlin Culberson and Dennis Shen receiving Honorable Mention.

  • Laura Strickland, Chris Doheny, Kirsten Chen, Meredith Farnham, Heather Clark, and Ellen Falci received their orchestra letters.  Lalita Jaroenchonwanit received her orchestra letter plus a pin.  Dan Claff, and Alex Werntz received orchestra pins.

Solo & Ensemble Festival
 
April 2006.  Herndon High Orchestra performs at the Heritage Festival in New York City.
  • Symphonic orchestra receives a Gold Award (1) and first place in the top orchestra division (AAA).
  • Concert orchestra receives a Gold Award (1) for their performance in the AA orchestra division.  They are also recognized for a performance of distinction.

Both orchestras played the same pieces that they performed at the District XII Festival.

The Herndon High Orchestra is named the Outstanding Orchestra Group.  Collectively, the orchestra, band and guitar ensembles from Herndon receive the festival's Sweepstakes Award which brings an invitation to perform in the elite Heritage Festival of Gold to be held at Symphony Hall in Boston next year.

Senior District Orchestra
   

January 2006.  Brian Scarbrough is awarded Second Place for Musical Composition in the HHS Reflections Program for his orchestral piece, "Seldom Autumn Falls."

June 2005.  Mr. Dillard recognizes exemplary students:
  • The 2005 Senior Class receives the Orchestra Director's Award.

  • Taylor Wilson (cello in concert), Joanna Sofet (viola in concert), and Sarah Wood (violin in symphonic) receive "Most Improved" plaques.

  • Sarah Wood receives trophy for "Outstanding Soloist" at the Disney Festival.

  • Meagan Carrick (violin in concert) and Michael Moise (cello in symphonic) receive "Most Outstanding" plaques.

  • Symphony orchestra receives a Superior (1) and the Gold Award for Best Orchestra.  They played:

  • Concert orchestra receives an Excellent (2).  They played:
  1. Winter Soliloquy (Feese)

March 2005.  Herndon High Orchestra performs in the District XII Festival:

  • Symphony orchestra receives a Superior (1) at the premier performance of a full symphony in the District festival.  They played grade VI pieces:

  • Concert orchestra receives an Excellent (2) playing grade IV pieces:

  • Chris Palmer (viola in concert) and Sarah Wood (violin in symphonic) receive "Most Outstanding" plaques.
