• Elizabeth Newcomer receives the National School Orchestra Award.

• Kirsten Chen receives the Director's Award.

• Will Baltazar and Patrick Kim are commended for achievement in Symphonic Orchestra with Jessica Hall, Adrienne Kelly, Naz Kochar, Bang Le, and Caitlin Culberson receiving Honorable Mention.

• Waell Elmisurati and Freedy Parada are commended for achievement in Concert Orchestra.

• Laura Strickland and Meg Dumlao are commended for excellence in Symphonic Orchestra with Ellen Falci, Meredith Farnham, Kathryn Ogborn, Meredith Richardson, Anthony Scymczyk, and Tova Yampolsky receiving Honorable Mention.

• Emily Ronis and Michelle Tran are commended for excellence in Concert Orchestra with Harrison Jones and Michael Evans receiving Honorable Mention.

• Heather Clark is commended for her service to the orchestra.

• Elizabeth Newcomer received the Founder's Grant, and Ellie Cattle received an orchestra scholarship.

• Anthony Szymczyk received his orchestra letter.  Elizabeth Newcomer received a pin for her letter.  Laura Strickland received a bar and a charm.  Meredith Richardson and Meredith Farnham received charms.

Also recognized were:

• Concertmasters in both orchestras.

• Section Leaders in both orchestras.

• Members of the Hornet Chamber Ensemble.

• One member who performed in Northern Virginia Senior Regional Orchestra.

• Four orchestra members who performed in the District XII Senior Orchestra

• One member who performed in the Solo and Ensemble Festival.

• Symphonic orchestra receives an Excellent (2).
• Concert orchestra receives a Good (3).

March 2008.  Herndon High Orchestra performs in the District XII Festival:

• Concert orchestra receives a Superior (1) playing grade IV pieces:

1. La Boca Grande (Kriechbaum)

2. Farandole from L'Arlesienne Suite No. s (Bizet/Isaac)

3. Shepherd's Hey (Grainger/Alshin)

All three judges awarded a score of 1!  Click here to see the program.

• Symphonic orchestra receives Superior (1) playing grade VI pieces:

1. Andante Festivo (Sibelius)

2. Suite in F for Strings "Lady Radnor  (Parry)

3. I christantemi (Puccini/Talmi)

All three judges awarded a score of 1!  Comments included:

	Terrific─big, warm sound when called for, and sweet pianos when indicated!
	Outstanding─Ensemble has a terrific core pulse and group commitment to precision.
	Really enjoyable!  Very musical.
	Super job!  Great musical achievement by this ensemble!
	Kudos to Director, students & parents!!
