Learning Outcomes for
Concert
String Orchestra
General overview of outcomes anticipated: Orchestra is a
course in applied instrumental music. Students will rehearse and
perform music from all periods, including Baroque, Classical, Romantic and
20th Century periods. Students will perform in public and will
experience the satisfaction derived from sharing a performance with others.
Orchestra members will show regular improvement on their instruments through
lessons and home practice
.
By the end of this school year, the student will:

Have grown in ability to solve problems in
music performance including:
a.
Correct finger pattern
b.
Accurate and precise rhythm
c. Dynamics in the ensemble
d.
Attack and release
e. Balance in the
section
- Be knowledgeable regarding style and interpretation of the music
played
- Develop increased skill in music reading.
- Possess basic knowledge of harmony, rhythm, form, instrumentation,
and tone color.
- Understand and respond to a variety of musical terms.
Major Outcomes anticipated:
Cognitive:
- Students will be familiar with music literature studied by the
orchestra and will be able to identify composer, the form of the music,
and its style and period.
- Students will be able to perform their assigned parts
satisfactorily.
- Students will be able to contribute to the overall quality of their
section, as well as the full orchestra.
Affective:
- Each student will grow in the capacity to appreciate music.
- The student will have pride in his own contribution to the orchestra
and its performance.
- The student will respect other orchestra members and their unique
contributions.
- The student will have an appreciation for organized team-work and
the necessity to subjugate his will to the goals of the group in
collaboration with the conductor.
Evaluation and Markings:
All grades are based on how well the student performs in attaining the
desired outcomes of the course relative to his/her basic ability and
capacity for musical growth.
The following outcomes are also expected for each student:
- Dependable and consistent individual contribution.
- Promptness and regularity in attending rehearsals.
- Consistency in preparation of lessons.
- Improvement in instrumental performance.
