District XII Solo &
Ensemble Festival

2002-2003
Student Information

  1. Each student must provide an original edition (no Xerox copies) of the music for the adjudicator WITH EACH MEASURE NUMBERED. Students who do not provide an original numbered copy will not be allowed to perform. Please have your name and school on the adjudicator’s copy and remember to pick it up in the performance room after you have finished playing.
  2. Each soloist or ensemble must provide a piano accompanist if the music selection has a piano accompaniment. A taped recording of the piano accompaniment is acceptable, but the student must provide his/her own tape recorder and tape operator. Students who do not have an accompanist will receive COMMENTS ONLY.
  3. Ensembles that are missing a participant on the day of the Festival or in which a teacher substitutes for a missing registered ensemble participant will receive COMMENTS ONLY.
  4. Performance room numbers will be posted on the walls in the warm up gym. Students do not need to register or check in. There will be an information desk. Students should report directly to the warm up room. Students should assemble by their performance room number in the gym at least 10 minutes before their scheduled performance time. A runner will take them to the performance room. If the runner cannot find the soloist or ensemble, the event will be considered a “No Show” and will not be rescheduled later in the day.
  5. Ratings will be posted in the cafeteria. Only directors may pick up rating sheets in the tabulation room.
  6. Pizza, drinks, and snacks will be available for purchase in the cafeteria. Please keep all food and drinks in the cafeteria. No food or drink allowed in the warm up room or performance rooms.
  7. Students should be quiet in the halls and there should be no playing in the halls.
Percussionist must provide their own sticks, mallets, and instruments. Speak with your director regarding the use of large instruments.
  8. Performance suggestions:
    • Tune carefully to the piano. Tuning of ensembles should basically be done in the warm up room and just checked in the performance room.
    • Adjust the music stand to the proper level for you and make sure you can see the piano accompanist.
    • Dress nicely. This is a performance and you are adjudicated on appearance.
  9. Family and Guests are welcome to listen to the performance and should enter quietly; adjudicators will be working. They should refrain from talking and taking pictures during performances so that the performers and adjudicator can concentrate.
